About World Vision

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.
Inspired by our Christian values, we are dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people. We serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

World Vision has agreed upon the following Working Principles:
  • We focus on the well-being of children
  • We focus on the empowerment of communities
  • We focus on tackling the causes of poverty
World Vision - Our Mission:

As Christians, we fight poverty and injustice world-wide, and tackle their causes.
To this end, we seek to find committed sponsors and supporters. Together, we shall create better and sustained living conditions for children, their families and their communities.

World Vision - Our Vision:

Our vision for every child, life in all its fullness;
Our prayer for every heart, the will to make it so.

World Vision – Our Mandate:

On the basis of our mission and our working principles we pursue the following three-fold mandate:
  • Humanitarian Relief to alleviate acute suffering
  • Long-term Development Co-operation to improve well-being and living conditions
  • Developmental Advocacy to lobby for fairer structures and parameters
World Vision – Our Values:
  • We are Christian
  • We are committed to the poor
  • We value people
  • We are stewards
  • We are partners
  • We are responsive
World Vision – Our Christian Philosophy:

World Vision is a worldwide partnership of Christians. We consider our service as being commissioned by God and as an expression of our discipleship to Jesus Christ. We are committed to the poor, the oppressed, and the downtrodden. Children are the special focus of our work. We consider our service to the poor and needy to be a witness to the love of God. Indispensible for us are the respect for man’s dignity, the respectful intercourse with other cultures and religions, and the commitment to religious freedom. Knowing ourselves to be reconciled with God in Jesus Christ, we carry in us the vision of a reconciled world. (Excerpts from our official Christian Philosophy Statement)

World Vision – Partnering with Churches:

As an international partnership of Christians, World Vision represents a variety of church traditions including Anabaptist, Anglican, Evangelical, Historic Protestant, Indigenous Fellowships, Orthodox, Pentecostal, Reformed, Roman Catholic, Salvation Army, Wesleyan and other Trinitarian churches. World Vision acknowledges these differences in tradition as important sources of dialogue and mutual enrichment… World Vision works in partnerships with churches while also relating to those from other religions with understanding and respect… World Vision does not proselytize nor work with those who insist on proselytism. (Excerpts from our official Policy on Church Partnerships)
