Research Project "Social Innovations in Germany"

As of 15th August 2011, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has confirmed its funding support for a two-year basic research project that looks into “Social Innovation in Germany”. The project is carried out jointly by the World Vision Institute and its university partner, the European Business School (EBS), who for this purpose have collaborated to create the Center for Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship.

The World Vision Foundation is the official funding recipient while the project is managed by the World Vision Institute.

With this government-funded research project, the World Vision Institute and its partner, the European Business School, have turned their joint "Center for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship" into one of the leading institutions for social innovation and social entrepreneurship in Germany. The Center, founded in 2010, is supporting both profit and nonprofit organizations in their efforts to develop innovative systems for social products and services.

The purpose of this research project is to:
  • Identify areas of opportunities and needs, in which social innovation may play an important role in the future
  • Investigate how social institutions develop new and innovative products and services to assist needy people
  • Investigate how profit businesses gain a competitive edge by applying their business competency to the social field
With this basic research, the foundation will be laid for these partners to pursue further research in this specialized area.
